Madison Keys Wins First Grand Slam Title at Australian Open: ‘I Have Wanted This for So Long’

"That's what makes this win so much sweeter," Keys said.

It's an incredible feeling for me to have won my very first grand slam here in Melbourne, especially since it's the same location where I made my semifinals for the first time. I'm truly grateful for all the fans who show their support at every tournament and event here in Melbourne.

"I'm really grateful to my team," Keys said, becoming emotional. "I've wanted this achievement for a long time," she continued. "I've been in another grand slam final before, but it didn't end in victory for me, and I wasn't sure I'd have the chance to get back here to win a championship again.

Her win on Saturday made Keys the fourth-oldest first-time grand slam champion.
